Your tour begins in Sofia, Bulgaria's capital city. Upon arrival, you will check-in to your hotel for your overnight stay.
You will be whisked from the capital to Rila Monastery, the most cherished monastery in Bulgaria. You will visit the church with adjoining museum and kitchen. A hectic day concludes in Plovdiv - the glorious second city of Bulgaria - for a slice of ancient Rome. Plovdiv is home to several ancient Roman landmarks such as the Roman Theatre, the Roman Stadium and the Aqueduct.
Kazanlak and the Valley of Roses are your next point of call. This is the heart of Bulgaria's rose oil industry. Here you will visit the Museum of Roses and the Thracian tombs in Kazanlak. Finally, you will spend your evening in the coastal town of Nessebar.
Nessebar is one of the oldest towns in Europe, popular for its coastal location and range of architecture from the Middle Ages and the National Revival period, which you can discover during your time here.
The city of Varna marries a splendid coastline with a vibrant metropolis. The Black Sea is the biggest attraction here but Varna is more than just a seaside resort. The former ancient Greek colony has many notable sights including the 2nd century Roman thermal baths, the Cathedral of the Holy Mother and several museums - the National Revival Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Navy Museum and the Ethnographic and Historical Museum - if you need an escape from the crowded beaches during your stay.
Balchik offers a splendid interlude from your frolics on the beaches of Varna. A former playground for Romanian aristocrats, Balchik is historically a luxury resort with beautiful palaces, gardens, chapels and villas.
The rock formations of Aladzha Monastery and the secluded forest of Pobiti Kamani bring an element of mystique to the tour before you return for another night in Varna.
The rich history of Bulgaria is further evidenced on this part of the tour as you visit the Madara Horseman National Preserve and the first ever capital of Bulgaria, Pliska. Ruins from the First Bulgarian Kingdom can also be found at Veliki Preslav. The day ends in another former Bulgarian capital, Veliko Tarnovo.
The royal town of Veliko Tarnovo combines pageantry and picturesque views, with the medieval fortress of Tsarevets; the old Market Place and Samovodska Tcharshia Street among the exciting landmarks to see before you return to Sofia.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken to the airport for your departing flight.
